Soulwork

Mystery School
by Virginia Fleming Grubb, Winter '98

The journey began four years ago. It was called the Teacher/Leader Training and then the Hall of Priests and Priestesses. What started with 25 initiates came to a close last month in Hilo, Hawaii with the graduation of Virginia Fleming, Heather Munro Pierce and Marcia Wieder from the first Pathways Institute Mystery School. Virginia wrote this poem to honor their passage.

I see you
A circle of souls gathered
All those who have ever attended
Or ever will attend
These Mysteries
I see you
Who wear these rings
I see you
Scholars
I see us three
Graduates
At this rite of passage
At the commencement of mastery
Four years of struggle to surrender
Years offered in discipline and devotion
and prayer
Years committed to the living study of failure
Of grief, of love, of pain and of joy,
Of insight and confusion and compassion,
Of the myriad expressions of our own souls
And the million faces of God
I see you
In the foundation of the temple
The voices of the dreamers
And the dance of the elements
I see you
The embodiment of sacred vows
I see you

Congratulations, Virginia, Heather and Marcia and good luck to the twenty-nine initiates whom will go on to their Year Two.
